About the Artist

Making art is an exploration of the natural world and the nature of life for me.

Exploring nature is an immersive experience that manifests in landscapes from forests to oceans as well as close encounters with ephemeral plants of the forest floor.

Delving into the nature of life is an equally engaging experience resulting in works that explore time, space, and being.  I begin each painting with an image or two.  As the work develops, other images come to mind that enrich the painting with multiple layers.  As each piece evolves I am sometimes amazed, sometimes disturbed, and always curious about how it will all resolve.

I came to choose watercolor after years of working with oil paints. I love the depth of color that the transparency of watercolor affords and the remarkable light reflected through it from the white paper.

After years as a professional calligrapher as well as a teacher of art and calligraphy, I am now deeply grateful and happy to be focusing on painting.
